> Began with choosing a fitting song and reading the lyrics and coming up with an initial storyboard from first impressions. Based on the translation available at https://lyricstranslate.com/en/ashesinfonia-ashesinfonia.html
> Design characters that fit within the song and animation's story. Originally it would've been a 3 member band and the animation would have parts with the band performing similar to a real band's MV, but the direction changed to something with a more continuous story and just 2 characters. Wanted to capture two very different styles of goth which gives them a common themeing but also contrasts them and reflects their outward personalities and roles. They also respectively have light snake and lamb motifs which follows on from the biblical themeing of the albums/singles shown in the 3D project.
>New storyboard that has a more focused storyline involving the characters
>I spent some time figuring out how I wanted the animation to look, starting with a lineless and blocky style but this felt unfitting and unsustainable so I changed to a looser, grainier and chalkier look that took inspiration from the works of Yasutatsu and Aika Inagaki.
>Initially due to limitations of the software I could only animate tiny sequences which then had to be moved into a different video editing software for timing, so I started out only doing quick and simple keyframing and low quality transitions.
>This got frustrating quickly so I upgraded the software and was able to get longer continuous sequences and more fluid movement, including a slight attempt at rotoscoping.
